New vocabulary is introduced as ‘Special Words’ and words students have already been introduced to are reinforced. Then, the session focuses on developing narrative skills to understand the sequencing of events and how stories fit together. Sessions conclude with a review of what has been introduced in that session.

They all follow a similar structure with a focus on active listening as well as on building vocabulary and narrative skills. Evidence-Based Instruction That Delivers
Students who participated in the TEL Ted oral language intervention showed sustained improvements in oral language, single-word reading, and reading comprehension, even two years after the program ended.
The long-term study found that children who received TEL Ted outperformed their peers with medium to large effect sizes—educationally significant results. Gains were especially strong for students who began with lower language abilities.
