Intervention: K-12

Intervention gives students the focused support they need to rebuild essential reading skills and accelerate growth. When foundational skills are underdeveloped, targeted instruction helps students regain momentum and move confidently toward grade-level reading.

It’s Not Too Late to Build the Foundation for Literacy

Many K–12 students struggle because they never receive consistent, explicit instruction in the foundational skills that make reading possible. When phonemic awareness, decoding, fluency, and language development are introduced only briefly or practiced inconsistently, students miss the core building blocks required for comprehension and confidence.

These gaps rarely resolve on their own. Students need timely intervention that rebuilds essential skills and gives them a clear path back to grade-level reading.

Why Intervention Can’t Wait

Students require Tier 2 or Tier 3 support when the essential components of reading - phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and oral language – are not fully developed. Without focused, consistent intervention, these gaps widen each year, making it harder for students to access grade-level learning.

These numbers underscore the urgent need for strong, research-based interventions across all grades.

4th Graders

Sixty-nine percent of 4th graders are below proficient in reading.

8th Graders

Sixty-six percent of 8th graders are below proficient in reading.

12th Graders

Sixty-five percent of 12th graders are below proficient in reading.

Structured Literacy Support Across Every Tier

The MTSS framework ensures students receive the right level of literacy support based on screening and progress data. Strong systems help districts identify needs early, align support, and keep students moving forward.

  • Tier 1: Instruction for All Students
High-quality, evidence-based core instruction for every student, with universal screening to identify risk early.
  • Tier 2: Targeted Intervention for Some Students
Scaffolded, differentiated instruction aligned to specific skill gaps, guided by progress monitoring.
  • Tier 3: Intensive Individual Support
Frequent, highly targeted instruction for significant needs, delivered in very small groups or individualized settings and driven by ongoing data review.

Identify Gaps Early and Act with Precision

Early identification is essential for successful intervention. RGR diagnostic assessments pinpoint decoding and fluency gaps quickly, helping educators group students effectively and teach with accuracy. Ongoing progress monitoring ensures instruction remains responsive, targeted, and effective across all tiers.

Research-Based Intervention Aligned to the Science of Reading

Effective intervention begins with instruction grounded in research, not guesswork. RGR’s structured literacy programs apply the Science of Reading to close gaps and accelerate growth for students who need it most.

Lessons combine explicit, systematic instruction with built-in scaffolds that make complex skills accessible. Teachers gain tools that simplify delivery, support fidelity, and ensure instruction targets the right skills at the right time.

When intervention is research-driven and designed for real classrooms, it does more than improve reading scores—it restores confidence, independence, and a belief in their ability to succeed.

Elementary Literacy Intervention That Rebuilds Foundations

Many elementary students need structured support to master foundational literacy skills. Our intervention connects oral language, phonemic awareness, decoding, fluency, vocabulary, and morphology so students regain momentum and return to grade-level learning.

Adolescent Reading Intervention That Restores Confidence

Middle and high school students often struggle because foundational skills were never fully mastered. Our structured intervention targets decoding, multisyllabic word reading, vocabulary development, and fluency with age-appropriate instruction that rebuilds skills and confidence.
